About Us

Building Skills for a Modern, Inclusive, and Competitive Agricultural Sector

ATVET equips young people, farmers, and agribusiness entrepreneurs with practical skills, technical knowledge, and entrepreneurial competencies to thrive in Ghana's evolving agricultural economy.

What is ATVET?

Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) is an agriculture skills based education and training system involving the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and understanding that prepares learners for employability, self employment, and entrepreneurship in agriculture and related industries.

ATVET combines classroom instruction with hands on practical experience to ensure graduates are workplace ready and capable of driving innovation in agriculture. Training areas include crop production, animal production, agribusiness and entrepreneurship, agricultural mechanization, irrigation and water management, agro processing, aquaculture, agronomy, climate smart agriculture, and extension services.

What We Do

ATVET coordinates and supports technical institutions, agricultural colleges, and training centers across the country.

  • Strengthening agricultural education through curriculum development and teacher training.
  • Building strong linkages between schools, farms, and industry players.
  • Promoting entrepreneurship, agribusiness, and youth employment opportunities.
  • Enhancing access to modern agricultural tools, technologies, and best practices.
  • Supporting competency based training, recognition of prior learning, and apprenticeship programmes.
  • Integrating gender responsive and inclusive pedagogy into all ATVET programming.

Our Network

We oversee a growing network of institutions across all regions of Ghana. Each is focused on practical, industry relevant training that supports food security and rural development.

Together these institutions prepare students for rewarding careers while helping communities adopt resilient and sustainable agricultural practices. The ACTIVATE Project currently supports 11 ATVET institutions across all 16 regions, with 23,866 learners trained and 18,423 youth transitioned into employment or entrepreneurship.

Inclusive Skills Development

ATVET is committed to ensuring that all young people have access to quality skills development opportunities.

  • Women and girls
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Rural youth
  • Refugees and host communities
  • Vulnerable and marginalized groups

Our Partners

A strong ATVET system depends on collaboration among training institutions, government agencies, private sector employers, and development partners. These partnerships support apprenticeships, curriculum development, skills certification, employment placement, and technology transfer.
